Why We Value Community Engagement and Gathering Feedback From Residents

Park Life Brighton at its heart is a campaigning organisation, we have created a resource for new groups to learn how to set up your own park and playground campaign. Over the last 4 years since we founded we have done extensive research and community consultations. Our Events have been vital to keep our organisation firmly on the pulse of what the community wants and needs. In terms of community development our volunteers and all active in the community working hard to lobby those in power for more.

Our Community Surveys gain much higher numbers of respondents compared to local authority ones, which save the taxpayer money and enables us to tailor our consultations and surveys around the communities needs.

Upcoming Surveys

Park Life Brighton are working collaboratively with other groups and young skateboarders to develop a pop up play skatepark event and consultation event in the next few months. You can learn more about the skatepark project – or Donate toward the project, every little helps. Middle Park – Community Engagement

We took part in a community day at the Whitehawk Hub. Evie and Caitlin interacted with locals on the consultation. We had a Live Map of Whitehawk, which enabled locals to put a sticker where they wanted the new park and give feedback on what play equipment they want. Lots of children got involved on the day and the overwhelming preferred location was the “Middle Park

Middle Park – Big Picnic Community Event

The final stage to the consultation on the new parks location was to take place at a mass community event called the Big Picnic. Organised by Park life Brighton over 500 people joined us on the day. We had a music and culture stage showcasing local talent with music for all tastes and even some spoken word and poetry. St Cuthmans put on a community BBQ, which then were sold at cost. We had volunteers from organisations like Due East and TDC help us give out free water, fruit and treats for those who wanted them.

This was staged in the area residents preferred “the middle park” We did a mass consultation with the return of the Live MAP, We had the Yellow Brick Wall in which children could write their favorite playground equipment and park design styles.

Residents told us what they Liked, Disliked and what they wanted in their parks and open spaces. Park life signed up 75 new members on the first day of membership sign ups. Residents overwhelmingly choose the middle park as the preferred location for the new park.

There was a massive health aspect to the day, we wanted to show that there is a community in Whitehawk and the surrounding areas. We wanted the community to come out and be proud of who they are and the celebrate the community we want to be. We went door to door publicizing the event, we spoke to neighbours on there door steps, and helped people on their way home shopping.

Everyone we spoke to were positive about what park life are doing to help bring the community together again.
